Summary

"The Complete Works of Artemus Ward — Part 2: War" by Artemus Ward is a compilation of funny writings from the Civil War era. In this book, Artemus Ward, the funny character made up by Charles Farrar Browne, uses jokes to talk about war, government, and what people thought was normal back then. Through stories, the author tells funny stories about what he saw and did during the war, making fun of the silly things both sides did. At the beginning, the book tells about Artemus Ward's trips in the South, where he meets people who support the South and sees their habits. One funny story is about when Confederate soldiers take his wax figures, which causes all sorts of funny problems. This shows how Ward makes fun of the serious parts of war, using jokes to show how different people felt about loving their country in different places. His funny way of talking and the interesting people he writes about make the book fun to read and help understand what people thought about back then.
