Summary

"The Complete Works of Artemus Ward — Part 7: Miscellaneous" by Artemus Ward is a funny group of writings where the 1800s humorist, Charles Farrar Browne (using the name Artemus Ward), shares his funny and thought-provoking views on society. Through short stories, like travel stories and theater reviews, Ward uses his special, joking way of writing to make fun of things and share his thoughts on the world. The book starts with funny stories from Ward's travels, like in "The Cruise of the Polly Ann," where he tells amusing stories from a canal boat trip, filled with strange people and a weird captain. The way the story is told, with its funny spelling, makes it even funnier. Then, the book moves on to tell Ward's own life stories, funny plays from his time in the theater, and funny comments on everything from his own life to what was happening in the world back then, all in his own funny and silly way.

About the Author

Charles Farrar Browne was an American humor writer, better known under his nom de plume, Artemus Ward, which as a character, an illiterate rube with "Yankee common sense", Browne also played in public performances. He is considered to be America's first stand-up comedian. His birth name was Brown but he added the "e" after he became famous.
