Summary

** "Genesis!" by R. R. Winterbotham is a science fiction novella from the early 1940s that uses space travel to examine deep questions about life, evolution, and right and wrong in science. It tells the story of Captain Vic Arlen and his journey to Venus with the scientist Harry Renzu and the Venusian Gheal. Renzu wants to make new life forms from the planet's raw material, but he is cruel to Gheal, who Arlen tries to protect. The story gets intense when Renzu's dark plan to use his crew members' bones in his creations is revealed, which leads to a big fight with his own monsters. Arlen and McFerson must deal with the results of Renzu's mad ambition, escaping with the help of Gheal's surprising loyalty, and question the meaning of life itself. **
