Summary

"Bealby; A Holiday" by H. G. Wells is about a boy named Bealby who doesn't want to be a servant. He's the stepson of a gardener and is expected to work at a fancy estate called Shonts. Bealby really doesn't like the idea of being a servant, and the story shows all the crazy things that happen as he tries to deal with his new job while also trying to stay true to himself. The beginning explains how Bealby doesn't want to be a steward's boy and how he wants to be free. Even though his parents want him to do it, Bealby dreams of getting away from the estate. When he gets to Shonts, he has to do a lot of new things and meets a lot of new people, which makes him dislike his situation even more. The early parts of the book hint at Bealby's feelings and give a sneak peek at the funny and wild adventures he'll have as he tries to make his way through his new life.
