Summary

"The Moneychangers" by Upton Sinclair is a story about a widow named Lucy Dupree, who finds herself back in New York City after losing her husband. This novel explores how wealth and big dreams can cause people to make questionable choices in the early 1900s. Lucy's return stirs up feelings for Allan Montague, someone from her past, while she navigates the complicated social scene of the time. The beginning of the book creates excitement for Lucy's arrival and hints at her complex history, with both Reggie Mann and Allan thinking about her return. As Lucy and Allan reconnect, we see Lucy's fresh outlook on New York compared to Allan's more experienced view. The story also suggests that sadness might be on the horizon, especially as Allan thinks about what he feels for Lucy and the difficult interactions she has with important men like Dan Waterman.
