Summary

"A Daughter of Fife" by Amelia E. Barr is a story about Maggie Promoter, a brave young woman in a small Scottish fishing town called Pittenloch, who deals with lots of hard things at once. After her father and brothers are lost at sea, she feels grief and also starts to have feelings for a newcomer named Allan Campbell. The book shows the reader a picture of life by the sea and how important it is to the people who live there. Maggie is tested as she tries to figure out her emotions and deals with the reality of her life, which might cause problems with love, destiny, and what people expect in her town.

About the Author

Amelia Edith Huddleston Barr was a British novelist and teacher. Many of the plots of her stories are laid in Scotland and England. The scenes are from her girlhood recollection of surroundings.
