Summary

"The Little Match Man" by Luigi Barzini is a charming story set in early 20th century Japan, about a lonely person who makes a tiny matchstick man, Fiammiferino, during a rainy day. Fiammiferino comes to life and shares his story as a Haji, a tree spirit, who witnessed how people hurt nature. The adventure highlights the value of friendship, sacrifice, and the distinction between the real world and fantasy. Fiammiferino and the narrator face problems like war and learn the importance of having friends. To save Prince Funato, whom Fiammiferino protected in his previous life, the little match man shows courage that makes his connection to the prince even stronger.
