Summary

"The Revenge: A Tragedy" by Edward Young is a five-act play packed with themes of jealousy and revenge. Set in Spain, the drama follows Don Alonzo, a nobleman, as he spirals into a pit of jealousy concerning his wife, Leonora. Fueling Alonzo's suspicions is Zanga, a Moor with a vengeful agenda against Alonzo for past offenses. Misled by carefully crafted lies and driven by his own uncontrolled emotions, Alonzo sets in motion a series of events that lead to the deaths of Don Carlos, among others, and the tragic realization of Leonora's innocence, but only after it's far too late to save her. The story exposes how powerful emotions can be, especially jealousy, as Alonzo is unable to contain his emotions which leads to horrible results.
