Summary

"Thunder and Lightning" by Camille Flammarion is a late 19th-century scientific work that looks at the awe-inspiring forces of lightning and thunder and their consequences for the world and people. It uses historical records and scientific observations that were up to date at the time it was published to showcase the destructive and odd nature of these powerful natural events. The book starts by telling strange and interesting tales of lightning strikes, pointing out just how random lightning is with cases like fireballs strangely interacting with people and objects. Through these stories, the reader sees how lightning can cause destruction and injury, or sometimes do no harm at all, creating a sense of wonder about our relationship with nature and how much we don’t fully understand electrical phenomena.
