Summary

"Fort Amity" by Arthur Quiller-Couch is a historical fiction that transports readers to the French and Indian War, where themes of friendship, honor, and complex love bloom amidst wartime chaos. The story follows Ensign John a Cleeve as he journeys into military life, balancing his personal dreams with the harsh realities of war; we first meet him as he is on an expedition towards Fort Carillon with his regiment to fight the French, feeling both excitement and anticipation mixed with thoughts contemplating the glory of combat. However, when General Howe dies in a sudden attack, it shakes the army’s spirit and changes Cleeve’s ideas of honor and fate, adding tension and depth as the soldiers deal with love, loss, and the dangers of their world.
