Summary

"The Human Interest: A Study in Incompatibilities" by Violet Hunt is a story about two women experiencing different kinds of dissatisfaction in their lives. The main character, Egidia, is a writer from London who visits a small town and meets Mrs. Elles, who is unhappy in her boring marriage. Through their interactions, the story looks at how different people can be within relationships, especially when one person wants more out of life than the other provides. The book shows Egidia arriving in a dull town and the beginning of the friendship and Mrs. Elles shares her unhappiness, longing for a more exciting and cultural life, away from her oblivious husband and the boredom around her. The story explores how difficult it was for women back then to follow their own desires when society had different expectations for them.
