Summary

"The Gold that Glitters" by Emily Sarah Holt is a historical story about Jenny Lavender, a spirited teenager in post-execution Britain, who trades her farm life for a position as a lady's maid. Jenny seeks adventure and a taste of nobility in Colonel Lane's household, but she quickly faces tensions with her family over her choices and romantic interests, particularly her admiration for the charismatic Robin Featherstone. As Jenny navigates the charms and challenges of her new role, her initial dreams of grandeur clash with the stark realities of her social position and the constraints placed upon her by society as she begins to understand the complications of love, ambition, and family during a period of national unrest.
