Summary

"Helpfully Yours" by Evelyn E. Smith is a science fiction story from the 1950s, about Tarb Morfatch, a Fizbian woman on Earth to help her people fit in. The story investigates how different cultures can clash, what it means to be yourself, and all the confusion that comes when different species try to get along. Tarb is super excited to be the first Fizbian woman at the "Fizbus Times" in New York, but she quickly realizes how difficult it is to fit into Terran society, especially since she's finding it extremely difficult to try to adopt her Fizbian habits to native norms. The story is about identity, society, and having to decide whether to maintain your culture, and Tarb must ultimately make choices that has her understand both worlds.
