Summary

"Days of the Discoverers" by Louise Lamprey is a historical journey that starts with young Thorolf Erlandsson, who, after the Black Death wipes out his village in Norway, becomes an orphan tasked with saving his family's cattle. Determined, he sets off for summer pastures and meets Nils, another orphan, who leads him to Mother Elle, a Finnish woman guiding other children to safety in the mountains. Amongst these children, surrounded by stories and folklore, they find companionship and bravery in the face of loss. They are not just surviving but keeping alive the traditions of their people.
