Summary

"Tarzan the Terrible" by Edgar Rice Burroughs is an action-packed story that picks up with Tarzan on a risky mission through untamed lands as he races to rescue his wife, Lady Jane, after hearing she's been taken prisoner in a place crawling with fierce beasts and old tribes. The book starts off by dropping the reader right into a dangerous jungle world, where Tarzan starts his search when he realizes Lady Jane is still living but in harm’s way. He makes his way across dangerous country full of nature’s hazards, like scary predators as well as hostile humans; there he meets and joins forces with strange creatures, like the pithecanthropus, beings that resemble humans but have distinctly odd features. The story shows Tarzan’s raw, animalistic side mixed with his smart, human mind as he fights off lions and comes face-to-face with different tribes, proving his bravery and might while also finding new friends and enemies to overcome. The story really captures the feeling of how important it is for him to see his wife again, as so many risks hide within this untouched landscape.
