"Motor Matt in Brazil; or, Under The Amazon" by Stanley R. Matthews is an early 20th-century adventure story about Motor Matt, nicknamed "Mile-a-minute Matt," and his brave friends Dick Ferral and Carl Pretzel. They set sail in the Grampus submarine for an expedition that quickly turns perilous when they encounter a giant cachalot (sperm whale). The confrontation with the whale is just the beginning, as they face more danger with their new passenger Ensign Glennie in connection to missing dispatches, covert Japanese patriots, espionage plots, and possible sabotage that sets the stage for a suspenseful journey through the waters of South America and the Amazon.
