Summary

"Jerry Junior" by Jean Webster is a story about a young man named Jerymn Hilliard Jr. stuck in a quiet Italian village while waiting for his family. To pass the time, he starts talking to the local townspeople. Hilliard has a funny and charming way about him as he spends his days in a hotel courtyard, making jokes and trying to get to know the staff. When he finds out about an American family living nearby, including a girl named Constance, the story hints that he might find romance and excitement while trying to cure his loneliness in the boring village.

About the Author

Jean Webster was the pen name of Alice Jane Chandler Webster, an American author whose books include Daddy-Long-Legs and Dear Enemy. Her best-known books feature lively and likeable young female protagonists who come of age intellectually, morally, and socially, but with enough humor, snappy dialogue, and gently biting social commentary to make her books palatable and enjoyable to contemporary readers.
