Summary

Annals of the Turkish Empire, from 1591 to 1659 by Mustafa Naima is a rich historical text that recounts nearly seventy years of the Turkish Empire's story. Written in the early 19th century, the book dives into important military events, big changes in politics, and how the empire was governed and shows the start of the book to be about explaining why studying history is important, setting the stage for annals that begin in the late 16th century. Early parts of the book talk about key political moves, army battles, and how leaders were sometimes removed from power. Neighboring states caused conflicts, leading to turmoil inside the empire. The work is of assistance to those with a keen interest in historical accounts of the Empire and how it worked with its army and leaders during this intense period.

About the Author

Mustafa Naima was an Ottoman bureaucrat and historian who wrote the chronicle known as the Tārīḫ-i Na'īmā. He is often considered to be the first official historian of the Ottoman Empire, although this formal office was probably not created until the time of his successor, Rashid.
