Summary

"L'Abbe Constantin" by Ludovic Halévy is a story set in a late 1800s village and centers on Abbe Constantin, a compassionate priest dedicated to the village of Longueval. The story kicks off when the Longueval estate, a place near to his heart for thirty years, is about to be sold, setting in motion big changes for him and the town. The Abbe is worried about what will happen when Mrs. Scott, an American, buys it, thinking about losing his connection to the land and how the town might change with a Protestant owning property so close to his church. We see how much he cares about his work and the friendships he's made, which builds the story for looking at community, faith, and dealing with change.
