Summary

"Chasing an Iron Horse; Or, A Boy's Adventures in the Civil War" by Edward Robins is an early 20th century historical adventure where a young boy named George Knight gets caught up in the middle of the American Civil War. He finds himself teaming up with Union soldiers on a dangerous mission to mess with Confederate railroads and help the North win the war. At the beginning, we are introduced to George and the other Union soldiers, led by a man named Andrews, as they meet secretly to discuss a risky plan to steal a train and destroy important bridges in the South. The scene unfolds on a stormy night in Tennessee as Andrews convinces the Union Soldiers to accept a plan that will have a high impact on the civil war. George, wanting to contribute to war and prove himself, carries a letter to Andrews and overhears the dangerous details of the operation. This sets the stage for an adventure filled with tension and shows George's bravery as he embarks on a dangerous mission.
