Summary

"Barclay of the Guides" by Herbert Strang is a historical story that drops you right into the heart of the Indian Mutiny, especially when Delhi is under siege. We follow Ahmed, a brave Pathan kid caught between clashing tribes and British soldiers. Adopted by Rahmut Khan, the chief of Shagpur, Ahmed wrestles with who he is and which side he's really on. The story kicks off with Ahmed spotting trouble – a bunch of horsemen headed towards his village. He doesn't hesitate; he races back to warn everyone. This act shows how smart and brave he is, willing to protect his home even when the odds are stacked against him. It's a wild ride of adventure where Ahmed grows up fast, facing dangers both within his own community and from the outside world, all while big historical events unfold around him.
