"A Secret Inheritance" by B. L. (Benjamin Leopold) Farjeon is a story set in the late 1800s about love, disloyalty, and payback, mainly following brothers Silvain and Kristel and how their lives are changed by a woman named Avicia. The story suggests a difficult mix of feelings and major events that lead the characters toward what they are meant to be. The book starts with Louis, who tells the story, looking back on his past and his close friendship with Silvain. As he searches everywhere for Silvain, he feels worried and is driven by his love for his friend. After being apart for years, Louis finds Silvain and Avicia in a forest and sees they are in trouble, which makes him feel sorry for them. The story gets more intense as we learn about Silvain's problems with his brother Kristel, which brings up ideas of love that isn't returned, a baby on the way, and a sense of something bad about to happen that sets the scene for even bigger problems later on.
