"Jasper" by Mrs. Molesworth is a story set in the early 1900s about the Fortescue kids—Chrissie, Leila, and Jasper—who are dealing with big changes after their uncle's death brings financial hard times to their family. The book shows how the kids grow up and learn to be responsible and think about others as they adjust to their new lives. Chrissie, the oldest sister, can be a hand full to deal with as she is defiant, while Leila, is much quieter and thinks a lot. Their little brother, Jasper, has a good heart and always looks out for his sisters, even when they aren't so nice to each other. Their mom worries that they are spoiled, and as the story moves forward, they'll have to get used to a simpler life where being unselfish is key.
