Summary

"Round the Corner in Gay Street" by Grace S. Richmond is a story set in a cozy, early-1900s suburban neighborhood. This novel introduces us to the Townsends and the Bells, two families whose lives become intertwined as they navigate the ups and downs of everyday life. The story starts with a glimpse into the Townsends' breakfast, where we meet Murray, who is often sick, his energetic sister, Olive, and his brother, Forrest, who loves sports. Their normal routine is switched up when the Bell family comes to live in a small house across Gay Street. Murray notices the Bell girls from their porch, and he later has a pleasant surprise when he meets Jane Bell. The beginning of the book shows different family relationships and the start of friendships, setting the stage for how these characters will interact in their small community.
