Summary

"Bib Ballads" by Ring Lardner is a compilation of funny poems from long ago that looks at what it was like to be a dad and have kids. The poems are fun and clever, showing the good and hard things about raising a little kid. Lardner uses a light and playful way to show how innocent and cute kids are, and also shares what a dad might really be thinking while trying to be a parent. The reader gets to enjoy poems that show what family life is all about, from funny stories about dealing with tantrums and messy houses to sweet moments watching kids play and grow up too fast; Lardner is good at making everyday stuff funny, showing how crazy but also lovely it is to be a parent. The book is easy to like because it's something everyone can relate to, and its smart humor makes it a nice look at being a parent and being a kid.

About the Author

His contemporaries—Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, and F. Scott Fitzgerald—all professed strong admiration for his writing, and author John O'Hara directly attributed his understanding of dialogue to him.
