Summary

"The Master-Christian" by Marie Corelli is a story set in the late 1800s that looks at questions about belief, the goodness of the church, and the main character, Cardinal Felix Bonpre, who is a very religious priest who thinks a lot about his faith and the trouble it has in today's world. Right away, the book shows us the city of Rouen, which feels very religious because of church bells. We get to know Cardinal Bonpre, who is closely in touch with the sounds of the cathedral as he thinks deeply. While walking in the church, he worries that people don't seem to have much faith nowadays, and he thinks this is because the Church hasn't done its job. The story gets more serious when someone asks him if Christ will come back and what will happen to faith in the future. Cardinal Bonpre is humble and troubled inside, and this makes him want to help people with their spiritual needs, even though there are big problems of modern life and doubt all around.
