Summary

"The History of Painting in Italy, Vol. 5" by Luigi Lanzi is a journey through the art world of Italy, specifically looking at the cities of Bologna, Ferrara, Genoa, and Piedmont up to the 1700s. The story shares how painting changed over time in these places, highlighting the different styles and important artists. It kicks off with the Bolognese School, examining how artists there tried to become really good by learning from the artists who came before them. The story then explores how these artists took old ideas and made them new, creating their own special styles. It questions some of the commonly held beliefs about the art from this time, connecting the different art styles from each city and examining the time period they were created in.
