Summary

"The Desert Trail" by Dane Coolidge is set in a vibrant border town during the Mexican Revolution. It follows the intertwined destinies of Bud Hooker and Philip De Lancey as they seek their fortunes in a land filled with risk and opportunity. After arriving in Gadsden, after dangerous events in Mexico, they hope to begin again. Their path takes a pivotal turn when they meet an old prospector, Henry Kruger, and he offers them a chance to join him in a risky mining operation south of the border. The characters become entangled in a complex world of intrigue and double-crosses, all driven by the dream of wealth and the thrill of the unknown. This quest tests the bonds of friendship, while the narrative paints a vivid picture of a society in turmoil.

About the Author

Dane Coolidge was an American author, naturalist, and photographer. He wrote fiction, non-fiction, and articles featuring the American West. He wrote short stories for magazines and made illustrations. His book Rimrock Jones was adapted into the 1918 film Rimrock Jones. The Smithsonian Museum has three of his photographs in its collection. He wrote several dozen novels and many tens of short stories.
