Summary

"In the Desert of Waiting: The Legend of Camel-back Mountain" by Annie F. Johnston is a story about a young merchant's unexpected journey of self-discovery in a harsh desert. Shapur's ambition to reach the City of his Desire hits a wall when his camel is injured, forcing him to pause his journey. During this delay, he encounters an alchemist named Omar, who introduces him to the art of patience through the meticulous process of making attar from rose petals. What begins as a frustrating setback transforms into a profound learning experience, as Shapur realizes the value of waiting and the strength that comes from overcoming adversity. He learns that true fulfillment lies not just in reaching his destination, but in the wisdom and compassion gained along the way, eventually returning to the city transformed and ready to offer hope to others facing their own trials.
