Summary

"The Little Colonel in Arizona" by Annie F. Johnston is a heartwarming children's story about the Ware family's move from Kansas to Arizona, hoping the dry desert air will make their sick mother feel better. The story mainly focuses on young Mary Ware, who is excited about the big change and can’t wait to live in a tent and have adventures; her enthusiasm contrasts with her older siblings, who are more worried and a little ashamed of her bold personality. As they travel by train and get used to their new life at Lee’s Ranch, a special place for people who are sick, the book shows how strong families can be, especially when faced with challenges, all while capturing the wonder and innocence of childhood as seen through Mary's eager eyes.
