Summary

"Elizabeth, Her Folks" by Barbara Kay is a story set in the early 1900s about a girl named Elizabeth Swift, who's sent to live with her grandparents on Cape Cod while her brother recovers after serving in the war. The story looks at family relationships and discovering who you are, especially when Elizabeth has to deal with the big differences between her city life and her grandparents' simple, country ways. We see Elizabeth's upset when she first arrives—she misses home and doesn't understand her grandparents; as time passes she slowly starts to understand them and adapt to her new setting. Through her experiences and how she gets along with her family, Elizabeth learns more about herself in ways she never expected.
