Summary

"Nancy Brandon's Mystery" by Lilian Garis is an early 20th-century novel about a young girl named Nancy Brandon, who spends the summer with her cousin Rosalind in New Hampshire, and how she finds herself facing family complexities and discovering who she is. Friendship, adjusting to new situations, and figuring out who you are is important as Nancy deals with Rosalind's insecurities and strange behavior. As the story begins, Nancy gets ready for her mother to go to Europe and feels excited and worried about staying with Rosalind, who she has never met. On the train, Nancy thinks about what her new life will be like and hints at problems in Rosalind's family, like issues with her stepmother and a mysterious person named Orilla, where fun and mystery appear to be the foundations of Nancy's adventure.
