Summary

"When Love Calls" by Stanley John Weyman is a story set in Norway at the end of the 1800's. It follows two girls, Bab and Clare, as they spend their summer vacation near the beautiful Sogn Fiord. You see them fishing, joking with each other, and getting to know a young man, Jem Herapath. At first, Bab complains about her clothes and wishes to be back home, but soon they get caught up in the fun of their vacation, enjoying the scenery and nature. One day, Bab accidentally makes Jem end up in a risky situation because she panics and reacts strongly to something she thinks is a problem. This event leads to funny and meaningful events as the story looks at themes of youth, courage, and the first hints of love.

About the Author

Stanley John Weyman was an English writer of historical romance. His most popular works were written in 1890–1895 and set in late 16th and early 17th-century France. While very successful at the time, they are now largely forgotten.
