Summary

"Freaks on the Fells: Three Months' Rustication" by R. M. Ballantyne is a funny novel about the Sudberry family's summer adventure in Scotland. Mr. Sudberry, a lively but clumsy merchant, decides to take his family from London to the Scottish Highlands for a three-month vacation. The story follows the family, including his nervous clerk and gentle wife, as they deal with the oddities of their new surroundings and their own energetic personalities. Mr. Sudberry's impulsive decision to move surprises his wife, but leads to funny conversations about what's to come. Once they arrive, Mr. Sudberry's boisterous behavior leads to comical chaos, especially when his son Jacky finds trouble, starting their summer with fishing trips and picnics that are sure to bring both joy and disaster.
