Summary

"A Reconstructed Marriage" by Amelia E. Barr is a story from the early 1900s that shows the tough decisions people faced when family expectations crashed into personal desires; it is centered on Robert Campbell, who wants to marry an Englishwoman named Theodora, but his family, especially his mother Mrs. Traquair Campbell, has other plans, specifically pushing him to marry Jane Dalkeith, a woman who fits their idea of a good match. Things get even more complicated when Isabel Campbell finds a special Bible meant for Theodora, revealing Robert's secret engagement and causing arguments about loyalty, tradition, and the freedom to choose your own love, all leading to a big question about what will happen when Theodora finally arrives.
