Summary

"A Notched Gun" by Walt Coburn is a story set in the Old West, telling of an outlaw's tough journey. The story centers on Sam Graybull, a known killer who finds a chance at redemption. Graybull robs a bank but then he discovers his friend Pete Peralta needs help because Pete's wife is in critical need of a doctor. Graybull, showed loyalty by agreeing to ride through rough terrain to find a doctor for his pregnant wife. The story ends with Graybull dying in a gunfight. However, his last act is to make sure the money from his bounty goes to Pete and his family, proving even a man with a violent past can find a way to do good.

About the Author

Walter John Coburn was an American writer of Westerns. Coburn was born in White Sulphur Springs, Montana Territory, the son of Robert Coburn Senior, the founder of the noted Circle C Ranch located south of Malta. The actress Dorothy Coburn is his niece.
