Summary

"Arachne — Volume 07" by Georg Ebers is a historical fiction set in ancient Greece. The book follows Hermon, a blind sculptor, as he experiences many difficulties that test his strength and his search for truth. After being saved from captivity by the woman he loves, Daphne, Hermon finds himself questioned regarding a possible artistic fraud, launching him into a period of deep self-reflection. Amid his crisis, he admits to his community that a statue was incorrectly credited to him instead of his late friend, Myrtilus. Along with this, he searches for a cure for his blindness in the solitude of the desert, which leads him to think hard about art, seeing what is real, and his place in the world. This all leads to his final mission to find his sight back, both in the physical sense and more abstractly.
