Summary

"The Argonauts" by Eliza Orzeszkowa is a captivating novel set in the late 1800s that looks into the lives of rich and intricate characters, mainly Aloysius Darvid, who is a millionaire. It also looks at what wealth and duty mean in society. The book talks about how hard work sometimes clashes with doing the right thing, and also what relationships are like in a rich family. At the start, we meet Aloysius Darvid in his fancy house, showing how much he chases after money and business to leave something behind, but this also makes him feel far away from his family. Orzeszkowa uses strong descriptions to show how grand and empty success can be. As Darvid deals with his family, especially his kids, and what society expects from him because he's rich, we see a man pulled between his goals and the problems they make for his loved ones. The early parts of the book get ready to dig into the personal and social problems around wealth and duty, promising an interesting story that mixes people's lives with bigger ideas in society.
