Summary

"Under the Skin" by Leslie Perri is a science fiction novel that transports readers to the 1950s, where human relationships are tested by encounters with Martians. The story focuses on the crew of a rescue ship, in particular Steve Lasker, as they navigate a tense and complicated mission to Ul, a troubled Martian mining community. Things get even more complex when Deborah Wayne secretly brings Laapet, the Martian premier's wife, onto their ship in an attempt to rescue her children from danger. Further complicating matters is Sam Vechi, another crew member, who has his own plans involving Laapet. As the crew confronts these challenges, the narrative explores themes of desire, secrecy, and the challenges of connecting with others across different worlds, leading to unlikely alliances and a deeper understanding of loyalty and love.
