The Lani People

"The Lani People" by Jesse F. Bone is a science fiction story where a young veterinarian, Dr. Jac Kennon, takes a job on the faraway planet Kardon and finds himself in a moral quandary. Kardon is inhabited by the Lani, human-like beings used as livestock. Kennon is conflicted by his new role as he grapples with the ethical implications of how the Lani are treated and must figure out how to navigate his responsibilities on a planet where the definition of humanity is questioned. From the moment Kennon considers the job advertisement until he arrives and starts interacting with the people of Kardon, the beginning of the novel introduces the complex societal norms and the moral issues that the main character faces.
