Summary

"J. S. Le Fanu's Ghostly Tales, Volume 2" by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu is a collection of spooky stories set in the Victorian era that focus on hauntings and things that can't be explained. One story tells about a family moving into a new house by the sea, where they start seeing strange ghosts and hearing scary noises. The narrator's wife and even the staff spot a tall, ghostly figure. They eventually find a hidden treasure that points to a dark story connected to the house. Another story is about an Irish nobleman and his daughters dealing with political problems and spooky events related to their family's troubled history. These stories mix horror with the characters' feelings and the history around them, showing how good the author is at making ghostly tales.

About the Author

Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu was an Irish writer of Gothic tales, mystery novels, and horror fiction. Three of his best-known works are the locked-room mystery Uncle Silas, the vampire novella Carmilla, and the historical novel The House by the Churchyard.
