Summary

"The Outcaste" by F. E. Penny is a story set in British colonial India's Native State of Chirakul, where Ananda and his friends face cultural clashes and personal struggles. Right from the beginning, the tone is set with a tragic accident at an aviation event. Ananda, who changed from Hinduism to Christianity, has to deal with what that means for him. His friends, Bopaul and Coomara, who are held back by caste, talk with Ananda about the pressures they face, especially when it comes to their beliefs. Ananda's decision to convert causes big problems with his family and who he is, making him think hard about what it costs to change in a world where society is very strict.
