Red, White, Blue Socks. Part Second Being the Second Book of the Series

"Red, White, Blue Socks. Part Second" by Sarah L. Barrow is a children's story from the 1860s that follows a group of young boys during the Civil War era as they embark on imaginary military exploits. Known as the Dashahed Zouaves, they are lead by Colonel Freddy as they play soldier, complete with comical military exercises taught by an older gentleman named Jerry. A southern boy named Tom challenges them with differing political opinions. The story follows their make-believe battles with some real challenges thrown in, such as a raging bull. The narrative culminates in a grand display where the young boys showcase their colors and celebrate with their home community. The children display unity and faithfulness to their country within the setting of their playful innocence.
