Summary

"Remember the Alamo" by Amelia E. Barr is a historical fiction story set in San Antonio, Texas, as tensions rise before the Mexican-American War. It introduces Dr. Robert Worth, a doctor dealing with tough choices involving family and politics, and his daughter Antonia, a young woman who is connected to her diverse heritage and conflicting loyalties while falling romantically for Don Luis. The book starts by showing San Antonio as a place full of different cultures where everyone's lives are mixed together, but as the American settlers demand independence, the town slowly turns into a place of conflict that leads up to the famous battle of the Alamo while exploring ideas of family, identity, and the struggle for freedom.

About the Author

Amelia Edith Huddleston Barr was a British novelist and teacher. Many of the plots of her stories are laid in Scotland and England. The scenes are from her girlhood recollection of surroundings.
