Summary

"Prisoner of War" by Randall Garrett, tells the tale of Marten, an Earthman's daunting experiences as the first human captured by the Flesso aliens during a long-lasting intergalactic war. This science fiction story highlights bravery and clever planning as Marten finds a way to deal with being held captive. After the Flesso aliens capture Marten, he sees it as a chance to trick them and show them what Earth can do. Even when facing torture from Ghuvekenkh-Nathor, the Flesso leader, Marten remains strong and smart. His capture was a planned move to show Earth's power and start peace talks, leading the Flesso to back down and agree to a truce. The story mixes suspense, action, and a bit of humor as Marten outsmarts his enemies and helps Earth gain the upper hand.
