Summary

"Back to Billabong" by Mary Grant Bruce is a story set in post-war England that shows the difficult life of Cecilia Rainham after she returns to her father’s home. The novel looks at family relationships, especially Cecilia's struggle with her stepmother, Mrs. Rainham, who tries to control everything. Cecilia, having grown up differently, now deals with her role as a governess and helper, managing her half-siblings Wilfred, Avice, and Queenie, whose actions often cause chaos. Feeling stuck and undervalued, Cecilia finds comfort in her bond with her brother Bob, who is coming home from the war, hinting at a chance for her to find freedom and a place where she truly belongs.
