Summary

"Atta Troll" by Heinrich Heine is a poetic satire that chronicles the adventures of Atta Troll, a performing bear who yearns for liberty and voices his opposition to human conceit and societal disparities. Heine combines aspects of social criticism and romanticism to examine ideas about freedom and life. Atta Troll's former existence in captivity is shown, along with his sorrow over losing his freedom. The narrative shows his conflicted feelings for his captors, expressing misery and fury at being lowered to a spectacle. Lascaro, a weak person linked to feudalism's oppressive forces, and Uraka, his witch mother, also appear, representing outmoded customs.
