Summary

"The Progressionists, and Angela" by Conrad von Bolanden is a 19th-century novel that presents Seraphin Gerlach, a rich and pure landowner, as he confronts political games, social divisions, and questions of right and wrong. Visiting the Greifmanns, Seraphin is charmed by Louise but shocked by Carl's cynical view that the dishonest Hans Shund will likely win the mayoral election. This encounter forces Seraphin to wrestle with his own values against the corrupt "progressive" ideas Carl presents. The story explores the complex choices and societal expectations Seraphin faces as he tries to maintain his moral compass.
