"Penrod" by Booth Tarkington is a story about a boy named Penrod Schofield who is dealing with the struggles of being a kid, following what his family wants, and the funny situations he gets into when he tries to understand the grown-up world. At the beginning, Penrod is unhappy about having to act as Child Sir Lancelot in a show. He even wishes he could be like his dog, Duke, who doesn't have to worry about such things. The more Penrod has to practice for Mrs. Lora Rewbush's play, called "Pageant of the Table Round," the more he hates it. This shows that Penrod is a mix of being innocent, funny, a little stubborn, and creative, as he faces the challenges of growing up.
