Summary

"Sappers and Miners: The Flood beneath the Sea" by George Manville Fenn, is an adventurous tale set in Cornwall during the late 1800s, centering on the Pendarve family's escapades around an old tin mine. Colonel Pendarve, his son Gwyn, and their friend Joe Jollivet find themselves caught in a web of risk and fascination as they chase rumors of hidden riches. The story kicks off with a spirited family breakfast, where talk of the once-prosperous Ydoll mine sparks Gwyn’s intense curiosity to explore its depths, despite his father's warnings. As Gwyn and Joe begin their adventure, drawn in by a captain's tales of treasure, the narrative quickly turns suspenseful when Gwyn's exploration results in a dangerous predicament, setting the stage for a bold journey filled with discovery beneath the surface.
